We use GoatCounter, a privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics tool, to see aggregate traffic — page views, referrers, and which buttons get clicked. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't fingerprint your device, and doesn't track you individually — we only see totals, never per-visitor data. Consensus itself still has no backend: your API key and data never touch our servers.
When you run an analysis, your browser sends the video title, category, and a filtered sample of comments directly to the LLM provider you configured (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google). That exchange is governed by your chosen provider's own privacy policy, not ours.
All of it lives in your browser's local extension storage. It is never synced to us and never leaves your machine except in the direct request described above.
If you use the optional cross-check feature, a search query goes to Reddit's public JSON API to look up related discussion. You don't need a Reddit account and you're never prompted to log in — but the request is made from your browser, so if you're already logged into Reddit in that browser, it goes out over your existing Reddit session cookies, the same as any reddit.com tab you have open. Reddit sees it as activity from your account, not as an anonymous request.
